Shaping Sustainable Futures

Understanding the Merits of Bamboo and Strengthening Value Chains

The World Bamboo Organization invites scientific papers for oral presentation at the 13th World Bamboo Congress, 7–11 June 2027 in Rotterdam.

Papers are welcomed from researchers, cultivators, food and nutrition experts, manufacturers, engineers, architects, designers and policymakers working anywhere along the bamboo value chain. Wherever you work with bamboo, from the field and the lab to the kitchen and the building site, there is a place for you at the WBC 2027.

Congress topics

Paper Topics

Papers are invited under three topics, which follow the structure of the congress programme. Each topic covers a broad set of sub-topics. A paper should sit clearly within one of them, and you name that topic when you submit.

Topic 1

Biology and

Sustainable Development

Topic 2

Technology, Manufacturing

and Design

Topic 3

Economy

and Society

If your work spans more than one topic, choose the one that best fits the main argument of the paper.

These topics will form the basis for presentation sessions alongside keynote speakers. Papers generally are expected to rely on strong data and appropriate methods for data processing and interpretation. Other papers such as those regarding the value chain under topic 3 should also strive for robust data support but may additionally include policy and strategic perspectives. The final structure and composition of sessions will be determined by the Scientific Committee according to the number and quality of submissions.

Language

Abstracts and papers can be submitted for review in English (preferred), Spanish, Chinese or other major languages, but final publication will be in English.

Templates

Step 1 · Abstract deadline 30 November 2026

Abstract templates

Please use one of the templates below to prepare your abstract (a single paragraph of no more than 350 words) for submission:

Step 2 · Full paper deadline 15 February 2027

Paper templates

Please use one of the templates below to prepare the PDF file of your paper (4 to 10 pages) for submission:

To use the LaTeX template, the Overleaf LaTeX editor is recommended. Preview the formatting in the Word or LaTeX sample PDF.

The maximum file size of the submitted PDF file is 4 Mb. Submit the original TEX or DOCX file as well.

Although manuscripts will be peer-reviewed and may be returned to authors for revision before publication, initial submissions should be made in final form assuming that no revisions shall be necessary.

Review

Scientific Committee

Every abstract and paper is reviewed by the Scientific Committee, which also determines the final structure and composition of the sessions. The Scientific Committee consists of experts from academia and private companies across the bamboo field, from plant and cultivation science through materials and processing to engineering and building. Geographical diversity is built in so that traditional producing regions and emerging European practice are both represented. The committee guides the scientific programme of the WBC 2027, ensuring that research, industry and design meet under the theme Shaping Sustainable Futures.
